On Sunday, 9 August, NK Udada ran its first outreach built specifically for secondary school learners. Ten volunteers, five in management roles and five running activities on the ground, spent four and a half hours at Nakifuma Modern Secondary School with 142 students from S.1 to S.6.
Why it mattered
Our earlier school outreaches focused on younger pupils. Nakifuma was different: older teenagers, harder questions, and a curriculum to match. We covered goal setting, career and personal development, financial literacy, peer pressure, and reproductive health, including puberty, body image, menstrual health, consent, and relationships. Sessions ran on our "sandwich method", pairing sensitive topics with lighter, more practical ones so students stayed engaged throughout.
Most of the questions students asked were about sexuality and the changes their bodies were going through. Our volunteers found them receptive, curious, and quick to trust, which made for one of our most engaged sessions yet.
